Overview Nerve growth factor-beta (beta-NGF) is a potent neurotrophic factor which supports the growth and survivability of nerve and/or glial cells. The active form of human beta-NGF is is a noncovalently disulfide-linked homodimer, formed by two 13.5 kDa polypeptide monomers (238 total amino acids). The three disulfide bonds are required for biological activity.

Specific Activity Chemicon's human beta-NGF is fully biologically active when compared to standards. The ED(50) as determined by the dose-dependent induction of choline acetyltransferase activity in rat basal forebrain primary septal cultures was found to be 2.0-5.0 ng/mL.

Storage and Shipping Information
Storage Conditions The lyophilized powder, though stable at room temperature, is best stored at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL. This solution can be diluted into water or buffered solutions and stored at 2-8ºC for one week or at -20ºC for future use. Reconstituted beta-NGF should be stored in undiluted aliquots at -20°C for up to six months.
