Application Notes For most in vitro applications, mouse IL-4 exerts its biological activity in the concentration range of 0.1 to 10 ng/mL. Responding cells are (partial list): B-cells and certain T-cells.

Specific Activity Chemicon's mouse IL-4 is fully biologically active when compared to standards. The ED50 as determined by the dose-dependent proliferation of murine HT-2 cells is <= 2.0 ng/mL, corresponding to a specific activity of >= 5x10E5 units/mg.
Entrez Gene Summary The protein encoded by this gene is a pleiotropic cytokine produced by activated T cells. This cytokine is a ligand for interleukin 4 receptor. The interleukin 4 receptor also binds to IL13, which may contribute to many overlapping functions of this cytokine and IL13. STAT6, a signal transducer and activator of transcription, has been shown to play a central role in mediating the immune regulatory signal of this cytokine. This gene, IL3, IL5, IL13, and CSF2 form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 5q, with this gene particularly close to IL13. This gene, IL13 and IL5 are found to be regulated coordinately by several long-range regulatory elements in an over 120 kilobase range on the chromosome. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.

Storage and Shipping Information
Storage Conditions The lyophilized powder, though stable at room temperature, is best stored at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL. This solution can be diluted into water or other buffered solutions and stored at 4°C for 1 week or at -20°C for future use. Reconstituted mouse IL-4 should be stored in undiluted aliquots at -20°C for up to 6 months.
