Background Information Zinc finger protein 42 homolog (Zfp-42), also known as Reduced expression protein 1 (REX-1 or hREX-1) or Zinc finger protein 754, and encoded by the gene name ZFP42 or REX1 or ZNF754, is a well-known stem-cell marker. ZFP42 expression has been positively linked to increased pluripotency in mouse and human embryonic stem cells. ZFP42 is regulated by specific octamer family members in early embryonic cells, and is involved in retinoic acid (RA)-associated reduction in expression.
