Overview	The MILLIPLEX® MAP Human Adipokine Magnetic Bead Panel 1 is a 5-plex kit to be used for the simultaneous quantification of any or all of the following analytes in serum or plasma samples: Adiponectin, Adipsin, Lipocalin-2/NGAL, Total PAI-1 and Resistin. This kit uses a 96-well format, contains a lyophilized standard cocktail, 2 quality controls and can measure up to 38 serum or plasma samples in duplicate. Background Information	The role of white adipose tissue was once thought to be limited to energy storage and internal organ protection. The discovery of Leptin secretion from Adipocytes in 1994 led to the recognition that white adipose tissue is involved in a variety of metabolic and physiological processes. Adipocytes secrete a number of hormones called Adipokines with functions that include appetite and energy balance, insulin sensitivity and lipid metabolism. The Adipokine Adiponectin is involved in the regulation of lipid and glucose metabolism, influencing the body’s response to insulin. Adiponectin's anti-inflammatory effects on the cellular lining of blood vessel walls may help explain the association of high Adiponectin levels with the reduced risk of heart attack.

Application Notes	For optimal sensitivity, use an overnight (16-18 hour) incubation. Serum and plasma samples require (recommend) a 1:400 dilution with Assay Buffer. Each well requires 25 μL of sample, standard or control.
