Background Information Dexras1 is a member of the superfamily of RAS-g-proteins and directly binds to Gialpha heterotrimeric G-proteins where it appears to promote guanine nucleotide exchange on Gialpha. Dexras1 is implicated in NMDA receptor signaling through nitric oxide synthase.

Specificity Dexras1 (Activator of G-Protein Signaling 1, AGS1). By Western blot the antibody recognizes a band at ~33 kDa on mouse brain extract. The antibody has also been used to detect Dexras1 in brown adipocyte lysate.

The exact function of this gene is unknown, but it may play a role in dexamethasone-induced alterations in cell morphology, growth and cell-extracellular matrix interactions. In addition, studies of a similar rat protein suggest that it functions as as a novel physiologic nitric oxide (NO) effector. The gene product belongs to the Ras superfamily of small GTPases.
