Background Information	Tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 10C, also known as Antagonist decoy receptor for TRAIL/Apo-2L or Decoy TRAIL receptor without death domain or Decoy receptor 1 or DcR1 or Lymphocyte inhibitor of TRAIL or TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand receptor 3 or TRAIL receptor 3 or TRAIL-R3 or TRAIL receptor without an intracellular domain or CD263, and encoded by the gene name TNFRSF10C or DCR1 or LIT or TRAILR3 or TRID, is a member of the TNF-receptor superfamily. This receptor contains an extracellular TRAIL-binding domain and a transmembrane domain, but no cytoplasmic death domain. DcR1 is not capable of inducing apoptosis, and it is thought to function as an antagonistic receptor that protects cells from TRAIL-induced apoptosis. It was found to be a p53-regulated DNA damage-inducible protein. The expression of DcR1 was detected in many normal tissues but not in most cancer cell lines, which may explain the specific sensitivity of cancer cells to the apoptosis-inducing activity of TRAIL.
