Background Information Chromodomain-helicase-DNA-binding protein 1 (CHD-1) is a member of the SNF2/RAD54 helicase family and is comprised of two chromo domains, one helicase ATP-binding domain, and one helicase C-terminal domain. CHD-1 is a regulator for RNA polymerase I transcription, polymerase II transcription, and a negative regulator for DNA replication. It is a chromatin-remodeling factor dependent on ATP and acting as a component for substrate recognition in HAT complex SAGA transcription. Studies have demonstrated CHD-1 involvement in HDAC activity and in the regulation of pre-mRNA splicing efficacy. CHD-1 is a required component in the maintenance of embryonic stem (ES) cell pluripotency.
