Members of this family are known to have ATP-dependent DNA helicase and a single-stranded, DNA-stimulated ATPase activities. Pontin participates in select transcriptional activation as a component of the NuA4 histone acetyltransferase complex that is thought to be necessary for the activation of specific transcription pathways related to oncogenesis. Pontin is a critical factor in cell proliferation and, when present on the cell surface, may bind to plasminogen and upregulate the activation of plasminogen. Expression of pontin is considered ubiquitous; however significantly high levels have been reported in skeletal muscle, testis, and heart tissue.

Background Information

Pontin/TIP49 (also known as Pontin 52, TIP49a, or 49 kDa TATA box-binding protein-interacting protein) is a member of the ruvB family. Members of this family are known to have ATP-dependent DNA helicase and a single-stranded, DNA-stimulated ATPase activities. Pontin participates in select transcriptional activation as a component of the NuA4 histone acetyltransferase complex that is thought to be necessary for the activation of specific transcription pathways related to oncogenesis.
