Background Information EB (End-binding) proteins are evolutionarily conserved and are important for extending tips of microtubules as well as regulating microtubule dynamics and communication with other intracellular substances. End-binding protein 3 (also known as EB3 or Microtubule-associated protein RP/EB family member 3) is a 282 amino acid long protein that is 53% homologous to EB1, which is known to associate with adenomatous polyposis coli tumor suppressor. EB3 has been shown to prefer brain tissue. EB3 is highly expressed during myogenic differentiation and the loss of EB3 activity leads to the inability of myoblasts to elongate and combine into microtubules. EB3 may be involved in microtubule polymerization and cell migration. EB3 may be also involved in stabilizing microtubules and anchoring them to centrosomes during spindle formation.
