Description
Catalogue Number AB6057
Description Anti-EB1 Antibody
Alternate Names
  • microtubule-associated protein, RP/EB family, member 1
  • adenomatous polyposis coli-binding protein EB1
  • microtubule-associated protein RP/EB family member 1
  • End-binding protein 1
  • APC-binding protein EB1
Background Information End binding protein 1 (EB1) is thought to be associated with adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) and may play a part in regulation of microtubule dynamics in the mammalian cells. EB1 could also play a role in the regulation of microtubule assembly and stability. EB1 is essential for proper cilia assembly in fibroblasts. EB1 has been shown to excite spontaneous nucleation and microtubule growth. APC gene mutation and the loss of negatively regulating WNT signaling is thought to play a role in the proliferation changes of cancer. The loss of association with EB1 could contribute to the development of certain cancers.

Antibody Type Polyclonal Antibody
Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene Summary The protein encoded by this gene was first identified by its binding to the APC protein which is often mutated in familial and sporadic forms of colorectal cancer. This protein localizes to microtubules, especially the growing ends, in interphase cells. During mitosis, the protein is associated with the centrosomes and spindle microtubules. The protein also associates with components of the dynactin complex and the intermediate chain of cytoplasmic dynein. Because of these associations, it is thought that this protein is involved in the regulation of microtubule structures and chromosome stability. This gene is a member of the RP/EB family. Gene Symbol
  • EB1
  • MAPRE1
Purification Method Protein A Purfied
UniProt Number
UniProt Summary FUNCTION: May be involved in microtubule polymerization, and spindle function by stabilizing microtubules and anchoring them at centrosomes. May play a role in cell migration.

SUBUNIT STRUCTURE: Homodimer. Interacts with DCTN1, DCTN2, DIAPH1, DIAPH2, TERF1 and dynein intermediate chain. Interacts with APC (via C-terminal domain), CLASP2, DST, KIF2C and STIM1; probably required for their targeting to the growing microtubule plus ends. Interacts with MTUS2; interaction is direct and probably targets MTUS2 to microtubules. Interacts with APC2. Interacts with CLASP1. Interacts with CDK5RAP2.

SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cytoplasm › cytoskeleton. Cytoplasm › cytoskeleton › centrosome. Note: Associated with the microtubule network at the growing distal tip of microtubules. Also enriched at the centrosome.

TISSUE SPECIFICTY: Ubiquitously expressed.

DOMAIN: Composed of two functionally independent domains. The N-terminal domain forms an hydrophobic cleft involved in microtubule binding and the C-terminal is involved in the formation of mutually exclusive complexes with APC and DCTN1.

SEQUENCE SIMILARITIES: Belongs to the MAPRE family.

Contains 1 CH (calponin-homology) domain.

Contains 1 EB1 C-terminal domain.
Molecular Weight ~32 kDa observed.
An uncharacterized band appears at ~52 kDa.
