Product Summary
The Parameter Cortisol Immunoassay is a 2.5 hour competitive enzyme immunoassay designed to measure Cortisol in cell culture supernates, serum, saliva, and urine.
Precision
Intra-Assay Precision (Precision within an assay) Three samples of known concentration were tested on one plate to assess intra-assay precision.
Inter-Assay Precision (Precision between assays) Three samples of known concentration were tested in separate assays to assess inter-assay precision.

Recovery
The recovery of Cortisol spiked to levels throughout the range of the assay in various matrices was evaluated.
Sample Type | Average % Recovery | Range % |
Cell Culture Media (n=4) | 103 | 87-113 |
Saliva (n=4) | 101 | 80-118 |
Serum (n=4) | 104 | 92-114 |
Urine (n=4) | 92 | 78-113 |
Linearity
To assess the linearity of the assay, samples containing and/or spiked with high concentrations of Cortisol were serially diluted with the Calibrator Diluent to produce samples with values within the dynamic range of the assay.
Preparation and Storage
Background: Cortisol
Cortisol, also known as hydrocortisone or compound F, is the primary glucocorticoid produced and secreted by the adrenal cortex. Found either free or bound to corticosteroid-binding globulin (CBG) in the blood, cortisol is involved in glucose homeostasis, inflammation, hypersensitivity, immunosuppression, and disease resistance. Plasma cortisol levels increase in response to stress and abnormal levels are implicated in prostate cancer, depression, and schizophrenia. Cushing's disease is caused by systemic cortisol excess.
