Background: LRP-5
LRP-5 (low-density lipoprotein receptor-related proteins -5 and -6) is a type I transmembrane protein that functions as a co-receptor with Frizzled in the canonical Wnt signaling pathway. Members of the Dickkopf (Dkk) family of proteins also interact with LRP-5, thus modulating Wnt signaling. LRP-5 polymorphisms correlate with susceptibility and resistance to osteoporosis.
