Background: SLC5A3
SLC5A3 belongs to the sodium:solute symporter (SSF) family. It prevents intracellular accumulation of high concentrations of myo-inositol (an osmolyte) that result in impairment of cellular function. This gene is localized to chromosome 21q22.1. Overexpression of SLC5A3 may play a role in the pathogenesis of Down syndrome.
