Preparation and Storage
Background: AdipoR1
AdipoR1 is a receptor for adiponectin, a hormone secreted by adipocytes which regulates fatty acid catabolism and glucose levels. Adiponectin induces extracellular calcium influx through AdipoR1. Binding of adiponectin to AdipoR1 results in the activation of an AMP-activated kinase signaling pathway which affects levels of fatty acid oxidation and insulin sensitivity. Muscle-specific disruption of AdipoR1 suppresses the adiponectin-mediated increase in intracellular calcium concentration, and decreases the activation of CaMkk, AMPK, and SIRT1 by adiponectin.
